Merkules Brings the "Controlled Chaos" to Reno’s Club Underground

Reno usually shows up for a good time, but this past Sunday night at Club Underground something felt different. Even before the doors opened, a line snaking down the street signaled that the city was ready to turn out for the Canadian titan Merkules.

By the time the man himself and his entourage stepped off the bus and entered the venue, the energy shifted from anticipation to pure electricity.

The night started with I Am Cricchi. An up-and-coming country hip-hop artist out of Texas, Cricchi brought a raw, southern grit to the stage that blurred the lines between genres. His set proved that the "country-rap" movement is in good hands, and he did an incredible job engaging the crowd and getting everyone primed for what was to come.

Next up was HEXXX, hailing from Los Angeles. HEXXX brought a stark contrast to the stage with a darker, more melodic "West Coast Wicked Shit" style. His presence was intense, and his engagement with the audience kept the momentum building.

What made this show unique was the layout of Club Underground. In between the main sets, the "back room" featured a smaller stage where local Reno favorites Doc Gruesome and Lil Manyak (performing as Illtrix) kept the vibe alive. It was a great nod to the local scene, ensuring there wasn't a single dull moment in the night.

To be honest, while I’d heard the name Merkules before, I hadn't spent much time with his discography. That changed the second he took the stage.

Merkules is a powerhouse of a performer. He launched into an 18-song setlist, opening with the heavy-hitting "Loser." From there, he rolled through fan favorites like "Twisted" and his famous remix of "Shape of You," showcasing the versatility that has made him an underground legend.

What stands out most about a Merkules show is his connection to the fans. He isn't just rapping at the audience; he’s rapping with them. His stage presence is incredibly engaging, making a packed club feel like an intimate hang with 200 of his closest friends.

If you walked into Club Underground as a casual listener, you walked out a fan. Between the genre-bending sounds of I Am Cricchi, the dark vibes of HEXXX, and the local flavor of the back-room stage, the Controlled Chaos Tour lived up to its name in the best way possible. Reno showed out on a Sunday night, and Merkules made sure it was a night no one would forget.
