Cattle Decaptation Rolls Through Reno
The energy at Cargo Concert Hall was already thick by the time the 30 Years of Inhumanity tour reached Reno. With a heavy-hitting support lineup featuring the legendary Brujeria, the localized chaos of No Cure, and the progressive edge of Four Stroke Baron, the stage was perfectly set for a career-spanning celebration.
When Travis Ryan finally took the mic, he immediately addressed the lingering memory of their last Reno appearance. Having been forced to play an entirely instrumental set during that visit due to illness, there was a clear sense of redemption in the air. Ryan was back at full strength, effortlessly shifting from his haunting "goblin" cleans to the bone-rattling gutturals that have defined the band's sound for three decades.
The performance showcased the evolution of extreme metal, opening with the atmospheric dread of "Terrasitic Adaptation" before diving into the relentless "Your Disposal." The band kept the pace punishing, weaving through newer technical milestones like "Solastalgia" and "We Eat Our Young." A significant moment in the night came when they announced "Scourge of the Offspring" as a nod to a decade-long era of their career, followed by the sheer aggression of "Bring Back the Plague" and "Finish Them."
As the night reached its peak, the transition from "The Storm Upstairs" into "A Photic Doom" highlighted the band's incredible precision. They saved their most visceral material for the end, closing the gap between the past and present with "A Living, Breathing Piece of Defecating Meat" and the unrelenting "Forced Gender Reassignment." By the time the final notes of "Kingdom of Tyrants" faded out, it was obvious that Cattle Decapitation hadn’t just made up for their previous absence—they had completely reclaimed the room.
